WHAT FABRIC SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Not sure which fabric to choose from the available options? Here's a quick guide on the differences.

If weight of the bag is your biggest concern, then Ultra TX70 and UltraGrid will be your best option. If a bag with more structure and "body" is what you're wanting, then X-Pac RX15 and RX30 would be a better choice.

Challenge Outdoor UltraGrid, UltraWeave & Ultra TX70:

A solid, lightweight and super strong fabric. UltraGrid is a 100% recycled nylon that's 210D and features a double Ultra fiber ripstop that makes it incredibly strong, and nearly impossible to rip. At 146 gsm, it's a touch heavier than Ultra TX, but offers more color options. UltraGrid is a single layer, woven fabric. It's a Backcountry Exposure favorite.

The ultralight hiker go to. Ultra TX70 is a 3 layer laminate with a 70D polyester ripstop face fabric, crossply ultra fiber and PET film that can be seam taped. It's lighter weight at 99 gsm and is ideal for when grams count.

For maximum durability the UltraWeave 400X fabric is excellent. UltraWeave is also laminated and features the strong Ultra fiber that's highly abrasion resistant while also being lightweight.

X-Pac RX Fabrics:

X-Pac RX15 is a 3 layer laminate fabric that's 100% recycled polyester with a 150 denier face fabric. It has a nice, soft hand feel on the face fabric. It's a touch heavier at 196gsm but is incredibly durable, has great structure and very durable for the weight.

X-Pac RX30 has the same 3 layer construction as RX15 but features a 300 denier face fabric and more color options. For maximum durability and structure on the bag, go with RX30.

Other Fabrics:

X-Pac VX07 features a 70 denier face fabric that's laminated to a 70 denier taffeta liner. It's lightweight, strong and built to last.

Challenge 450RS is a 450 denier, single layer ripstop recycled polyester bag cloth. It's PU coated inside and has a C0 DWR on the outside. A bit heavier weight, but strong and durable.

ARE THE BAGS WATERPROOF?

Backcountry Exposure bags are highly water resistant. All of the fabrics used on our bags are waterproof through environmentally friendly PU and DWR coatings, or lamination.

Bags that use a zipper for the opening are not seam taped or sealed.
Roll Top bags without a zipper ARE seam taped, like the Aven Roll Top Food Bag.

Why do you not seam tape/seal all of your bags?
Seam sealing adds significant time and cost to production and in many cases, sealing isn't necessary for the function of the bag. Our bags will resist water from a light rain and keep contents dry. Any gear items of concern in getting wet should be placed into a dry bag that's designed to be 100% waterproof.

Bags can be seam sealed or taped by you should you decide to do that yourself.

The Mesa Food Bag is our most popular product, and here's why. This 4.5 liter capacity bag is designed to carry 1-4 days worth of food, which makes it ideal for the backpacker focused on weekend trips. Big enough for three to four freeze dried meals from the popular meal companies you love like Trail Goods Co, Pinnacle Foods, Peak Refuel and more. You'll have space left over for snacks, lunch food, and drink mixes. All in a zippered bag that's shaped to fit into your backpack without wasting space.

Hikers also love that food is easier to find in the bag and doesn't get lost in the abyss of larger roll top style food bags.

My "next meal bag"

I still store the bulk of my food in a waterproof roll top bag but I found this bag to be the perfect "my next meal bag."
I keep it at the top of my backpack and it contains everything I need to make my next meal on the trip.
It fits my stove, pot, fuel, cutlery, soap, towels, flat pack bowl, and a freeze dried meal easily. This makes it very fast to stop, pull it out, cook, clean up and put away without having to go digging through my backpack for everything. It's especially nice in those long days when you finish up late and just want to eat before setting up camp.
Build quality is also excellent and the material is great.
I am very happy with this purchase.

This is an extremely well made product. Have purchased several products from backcountry exposure before and the quality never disappoints. You can't get any better!!!

MESA FOOD BAG

Used the bag for the first time this week ... along with several other Backcountry Exposure bags ... I was surprised how they really did help in the packing and organizing of 'the stuff' in the backpack.
